Philosophical Home Design

For 2013: Forget about the new you for a second, how about a more “you” home? Two of my bestest Brazilian friends in Rio–a street artist and poet/philosophy teacher–recently bought a home. When I visit them in mid-December, they wowed me with the way they have personalized their new home. They stenciled the kitchen cabinets with homages to their favorite philosphers and wild-childs. My friend chose mostly tragic personalities because she studies the ancient Greeks and she admires the way Janis Joplin, Frida Kahlo, and Nietzsche lived their lives intensely.

Adore. Who would you paint on your kitchen cabinets and for what reason? How do you want to personalize your home?
