About Sasha

Here's my story

About eight years ago, I went on a camping trip to Yosemite National Park with a friend who worked as a software engineer at Google.
We were speeding along through the mountains driving toward camp and Malcolm told me that someone had asked him what I do,.
“I didn’t know how to describe you,” he said. “You exist beyond categories.”
At the time I felt insulted. How could he not know how to describe me?
In the years since I have come to accept and even celebrate that I exist among a number of people in the world who don’t easily fit into labels. There’s a small band of us who may be writers, coaches or therapists, and community builders who are up to things to bring people together for the greater good.
My work over the last 17 years has been in the service of the empowerment of women and quirky souls everywhere. I like authenticity, vulnerability, community, and helping people shine. Shining always starts with self-acceptance.

Here are some labels because actually labels do help.

What I Offer

Quirkyalone

For 17 years now, I have been supporting people to move from “maybe there’s something wrong with me” to “I’m not settling” through my work creating the quirkyalone movement.

I first coined the word “quirkyalone” in a 2000 essay in my magazine To-Do List. The concept spread before the word “viral” was common. The massive reaction to that essay led me to write my first book Quirkyalone: A Manifesto for Uncompromising Romantics (2004), a book that has remained a cult favorite.

The core definition of quirkyalone is someone who prefers to be single rather than settle. I haven’t stayed stuck in any fixed idea of what “quirkyalone” means and in my own personal journey and my coaching, writing and dancing has me more and more interested in connection, vulnerability, authenticity, and at the end of the day, how to be “quirkytogether”–fully rooted in yourself while also deeply connected with another.

As I continue along in my own experiential adventures I share experiences of being quirkyalone and quirktyogether with readers. I’m also deeply interested in female empowerment, self-worth, self-love, and the healing we can find from authentic sensuality.

And there’s more!

Wet

In my early to mid-thirties I felt my soul dry up in a social media product manager job working in Silicon Valley.

That dry experience led me to make a radical decision to chuck it all at 36, quit my job, and move to Brazil, where I was convinced (mostly) that living in Brazil would teach me a new body-focused way of being happy and probably I would meet the man of my dreams.

The story of this radical journey of healing through sensuality is the one I am chronicling in my memoir-in-progress Wet. The story turned out to be much deeper than I expected, and it’s actually about healing the effects of sexual abuse and how those effects manifested in me as an adult, and how i healed them. It’s a story of healing through the body and sensuality.

I’m at work at this book now. You can read more and sign up to get on an early reader list here.
